BREAKING: Stephen Curry Agrees to $116 Million Warriors Extension

Stephen Curry isn’t going anywhere.

The Golden State Warriors have reached an agreement with their franchise superstar on a two-year, $116 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The deal includes a player option for the 2028-29 season, giving Curry additional control over his future while keeping him in Golden State for at least the 2027-28 season.

The agreement comes just days after Curry publicly discussed the importance of maintaining roster flexibility as he considered his next contract.

Curry was eligible for a maximum two-year extension worth approximately $136.7 million. Instead, the reported $116 million agreement comes in roughly $20.7 million below that maximum.

That difference could matter significantly for Golden State’s ability to build around Curry.

Curry’s current contract pays him approximately $62.6 million in 2026-27, making him one of the NBA’s highest-paid players.

The new extension gives Curry another two seasons while preserving a player-option decision for 2028-29.

WHY THE $116 MILLION FIGURE MATTERS

This wasn’t simply about how much money Curry could make.

Before the agreement, Curry was eligible for a maximum extension of approximately $136.7 million over two years. Golden State had reportedly discussed different contract structures with Curry, including options that could provide the franchise with additional salary-cap flexibility.

Curry previously said he wanted to understand the team’s financial situation and have an opportunity for Golden State to remain competitive.

Now, the reported agreement gives the Warriors a different financial picture than a full maximum extension would have.

According to RealGM’s report, Golden State could have significant cap space available during the 2027 offseason.

STEPH CURRY’S WARRIORS LEGACY

Curry has spent his entire NBA career with Golden State.

He has helped lead the franchise to:

  • 🏆 4 NBA championships
  • 🏆 2 NBA MVP awards
  • 🏆 1 NBA Finals MVP
  • 🎯 NBA’s all-time 3-point record
  • ⭐ Multiple All-Star selections

He is now set to continue that career in the Bay Area under a new contract.

Curry had previously made clear that his goal was to finish his career with Golden State.

THE BIGGER STORY

The headline isn’t simply $116 million.

It’s what Golden State does with the flexibility created by the structure of Curry’s new deal.

Curry is still getting a massive extension, while the Warriors avoid committing the full amount he was eligible to receive.

That leaves the franchise with more room to maneuver as it attempts to remain competitive around one of the greatest players in NBA history.

Steph Curry isn’t leaving Golden State.

The next question is what the Warriors do with the financial flexibility that comes with keeping him.
